Amid the shifting social landscape, how can we bring the best insights and experiences from across industries and regions to enhance the way we uplift communities? Allkin Singapore, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and Ewha Womans University are proud to jointly-organise the Social Work Academia-Practice Symposium (SWAPS).

Formerly known as the AMKFSC-SUSS Symposium, the biennial symposium will now take on a permanent new name. Themed “Adaptive Capacity Building: Responding to Shifting Landscapes in Social Work Practices”, SWAPS 2024 will bring together the best minds from social work academia and professional practice to share insights on effectively adapting to societal shifts, cultivate resilience and reducing vulnerabilities, collaboratively tackle challenges faced by professionals, and explore innovative strategies to enhance their capabilities through:

Discover new perspectives change and adaptivity from the main keynote speakers, who bring their wisdom and insights from across the globe all the way to SWAPS 2024.

Adaptive Strategies in Dynamic Environments
by Dr Bonnie Lee, Professor at University of Lethbridge

Dr Bonnie Lee explores how change and adaptivity can be harnessed at three different levels: on the micro level, through personal growth; at a meso level, by leveraging collaborations to achieve systems change goals; and on the macro scale, by looking deeper into the transformation of a nation.

E.S.G. as a Social Model for Sustainable Life
by Prof Yang Ok Kyung, Professor at Ewha Womans University

Prof Yang Ok Kyung delves deeper into how ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) should be perceived as more than business goals, and harnessed through practice and action to tackle diverse population and social issues. The keynote will look at the ESG’s key principles of cleanness, diversity, and integrity, as a means of forging a more sustainable future.

Allkin x Fei Yue: Developing People using Competencies as a Common Language
by Tan Yi Ying, Lead Social Worker at Allkin Singapore, and Dr Yee Lai Fong, Deputy Director of CE Office (Strategic Planning & Organization Development) at Fei Yue Community Services

Allkin and Fei Yue share learning insights on applying competencies as a common language to enable individuals and teams to take ownership for their learning. This involves creating conditions to support collaborative forms of learning across disciplines and services, where learning is generated through iterative cycles of adaptive action.

Breakout Experience

Choose between four different breakout experiences, which include interactive workshops held by practitioners and industry experts, as well as oral presentations that touch on specialised areas in adaptive capacity building.

How much does it cost to attend SWAPS 2024?

Entry to the symposium is free, but seats are limited – register early at swaps2024.eventbrite.com to secure your spot!

Must I be an academic or professional in the social service sector to attend this event?

Although the event focuses on topics that are mainly relevant to academics or professional in the social work industry, we welcome anyone to join us at SWAPS 2024.

What should I bring to the event?

As bottled water won’t be provided, we encourage guests to bring their own water bottles, which they can refill at SUSS’ water cooler points. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided during the event, so there is no need to bring snacks or provision for your own meals.

I have registered for the event, but am unable to make it now. What should I do?

Although entry is free, we encourage participants to avoid making any last-minute cancellations, in honour of the time, costs, and effort that have been put into organising the symposium. If you are unable to attend due to any unforeseeable or urgent matters, please let us know in advance at swaps@allkin.org.sg so that we can release your spot to others.

I am interested to attend SWAPS 2024, but am unable to fly into/will not be in Singapore at that time. Can I still be a part of the event?
